1/26/2019 0 Comments THE YEARLY DAY OF LOVEChocolates, roses and prosecco, the three highlights of the annual celebration of love is around the cornerNow every year on February 14th, Valentine’s Day is celebrated globally. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I can’t quite grasp the concept of it all. I mean yes, it’s a way to show your loved ones how much they mean to you, but it's no more than a financially exploiting day. You could go to the spa one weekend with your partner or friend instead of on Valentine’s Day and save half the amount! Saying all this, I do find it a beautiful day, but I’m more for making a picnic and eating it on a park bench with a flask of hot chocolate. Not everyone can afford presents to meet the expectations society has created for this one day. I have noticed that Marks & Spencer’s are one of the best brands to celebrate the day with, simply because if you’re like me and have no idea where to start when cooking a three-course meal, they have it sorted for an affordable price. To me, there isn’t just one day you should show your loved ones how much they mean to you. You can buy roses any time of the year, the same with chocolates and my favourite sparkly friend, Prosecco. There are 365 days in a year, that’s 8760 hours to spend quality time with the people around you. Is Valentine’s Day just for your partner? Society is evolving and that’s all down to social media. I’m always seeing people hype up their friends’ “glow-up” on my Twitter feed, whether it be them getting healthier mentally, physically or appreciating how good they look. So, this Valentine’s Day, if you’re single and you’re dreading the day because it’s full of lovesick couples, then grab a friend and go for some food or drinks. Who says just because you’re single you can’t enjoy Valentine’s Day with the friends you LOVE. It’s a day of love. Even if you only have a few friends that you rarely see because they’re in different cities, FaceTime, call, text them and tell them you love them and WHY. It’s 24 hours of realising how truly blessed you are. Take it. EVE MARGARET BREMMERFeatures Writer for INSYNC-MK
