Being spiked can be done in seconds and often goes unnoticed, but the results of this can be instant and alarming. The most common substance that is used in drink spiking, or otherwise known as 'date rape drugs' is the use of Rohypnol or Gamma Hydroxybutyrate. These often go undetected as they do not show up when added to your drink, and are tasteless, meaning most victims are unaware that they have been spiked until the results begin to show. Symptoms of being spiked depend on the individual and the substance used, but the most common symptoms are: - Difficulty speaking - Loss of balance - Visual problems - Memory loss - Feeling confused - Vomiting and unconsciousness We can only try and prevent this from happening to ourselves and the people around us by staying aware of our surroundings and taking precautions when in these vulnerable situations. Being located at the bar also means that you are aware of the people around you from the process of you taking the drink away, ensuring that you're safe to drink it as it hasn't been left unattended. try to go for bottled drinksWe know this may be difficult as not every drink is available in a bottle, but bottled drinks are much safer than drinks in a glass, as there is less accessibility for it to be spiked. You can watch the top of the bottle as it is removed, and keep your finger in the bottle lid when dancing to restrict anything going inside it! watch your drink at all timesKeeping your drink on the side or leaving it unattended is a risk when out at the club or bar, as this gives time for a substance to be added to your drink.
